Armitage, N.Z-V..0, has just completed a course of instruction at Mar-.hester University (Owen's College). The present Mayor of Christchurch Mr H. Holland, will not be a candidate for the Mayoralty at the next election. Mr J. R Fow has agreed to accept nomination for another term as Mayor of Hamilton. Captain F. C. Dreyer, C.8., 0.8. E., is the newly-appointed commander ol H.M.s. New Zealand Captain DTeyer has also been appointed Chief of Stuff to Admiral Jellicoe. Messrs C. H. and H. J. Wardell, twt young New Zeaianders who have done dis tinpuishrd service with the British Re( Cross in France and Italy, returned tt Auckland by the Niagara yesterday. Our London correspondent writes under date January 24:—Mr. J. V>. Clarkson has just arrived bar-k in London by the Carmania, on which, having travelled with Mr. Compere, the American Labour leader, he took the .hair at a lecture given by that veteran worker.
