THE OLD DOCK SITE.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —In your issue of Wediesday it is stated that the Harbour Board propose to hand over the old site to the City Council for the purpose of erecting a war monument. I think a much more beautiful arrangement would be to erect the old fairy fountain and a hand rotunda, and have the plot laid out in beautiful shade trees nnd flowers. Our city gardener could make this spot a lovely fairy garden, and the fountain and music would be a source of pleasure to thousands, as was the case at the late exhibition.—l am, etc., IX lON. (To the Editor.) i Sir.— Tbe suggestion is a most laudable one if it were erected in any of our parks or domains, or if an up-to-date museum were built in lieu of a monument. 1 strongly object to have one erected on the site offered by the Harbour Board. We are aware of the undue haste in the removal of tlie duck, which immediately enhanced the value of properties in its vicinity, and now to erect a monument on a site valued, say. from 120.0119 to £30.000. which was supposed to brin-- in so much revenue for building purposes, is not justified.—l am. etc. P.VIRTLE. 1
