LAND TRANSFER TITLE.
AN ORDER SOUGHT. Before Mr. Justice Hoskrng- at the Supreme Court this morning, an application was lodged by William Neil Austin (Mr. J. J. Butler) for a writ of mandamus against Mr. Jackson Palmer, as Chief Judge of the Native Land Court (Mr. Tole, K.C.), to sign a, particular order made by the late. Judge Mair in 1904. The facts were that Utakura 1 B2 Block was subdivided in 1004 into 17 subdivisions, numbered A. B. (J. etc. In 1914 the plaintiff purchased Utakura 1 B2 J., and had his transfer confirmed by the Maori Land Board. In order to enable him to get a land transfer title, be applied in January, 1910, and at subsequent dates for the order for Utakuru 1 B2 J to be signed and forwarded to the District Land Registrar. Nothing was ever done to the order by the Native Land Court, and action was taken. The defence 6et up admits the facts, but says that the Chief Judge will not sign the order because there are not sufficient plans to satisfy him that the .Survey Department's plan of the land was correct.
