ENEMY'S HARD POSITION ON FRENCH FRONT.
RETREAT MAY DEVELOP INTO ROUT. (Received 10.10 a.m.) LONDON, October 13. Mr. Geo. H. Perris. special correspondent on the Frcfnch front, says that it is inaccurate to say that the Germans on the French front arc dislocated, but their position is dangerous, and we may see the retreat become a rout in some sectors. German persistence in holding Laon is most adventurous, but undoubtedly much material has been removed. The enemy has crowded half a. million men with their impedimenta on the few main roads between the Sambre and the -"■.fgonrc.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
600 ENEMY AIRCRAFT DESTROYED LAST MONTH. (Received 11.10 a.m.) LONDON, October 13. The Press Bureau reports that 54S German aeroplanes were destroyed or disabled on the western front in September, and 59 balloons were destroyed. Two hundred and thirty-six British machines are missing. The figures are exclusive of heavy casualties inflicted by the Independent Air Force and British coastal squadrons in raids on Germany and Belgium.— (A. al'.d N.**and Router.)
