SERVICE BOARD DECISIONS. The l'irst Auckland Military Service. Board completed its deliberations for the work late yesterday afternoon. The appeal of the .Murray Shoe Co. (Mr. Hall Skelton) on behalf "of Thomas, hoot operator, wsw adjourned for further inquiry. It was stated that Brown ha<l been released owing to his wife's ill-health, and the company had reemployed him as another operator liad left the. company. The factory manager of the company gave evidence, and said Brown was indispensable, and if he was sent away it would disorganize the work and affect other hands employed. Major Conlan said the machines under the charge of Brown were described by independent trade representatives a? being easily learnt. The board took the view that it seemed as though the company bad accentuated its difficulty by employing Brown when it knew lie was a soldier. FLYIXG SCHOOL MECHANIC. Leo A. WaJeh. director of the New Zealand Flying School at Kohimarania, appealed for the retention of Erie Gγ. Stilwell (CI), a member of the constructional and repair staff working on machines used forv£he training of candidates for the Royal Flying -Corps. Stilwell, who wa-s taken on in January when ho was classified as unfit, had knowledge and skill which was essential to the maintenance of his special branch of the school. Constructional rejrair and maintenance was a very important item in connection with the school. There were four machines now. and there were three other men engaged -with Stilwell who could not be Teplaced wholly in less than three or four months at least. He was really indispensable. The board adjourned the appeal sine die. The appeal of Walter J. Bruning, of Grey Lynn, was to the effect that lie was a fruit expert in an essential industry. His employers had originally appealed on public grounds, and secved leave to replace him. Appellant now had domestic grounds as well, but the board said these were not adequate to warrant leave until January. Four brothers had gone to the war, one being killed. Leave till November 7 'was granted.
