STREETS LOAN.
INSPECTION BY COUNCIL. COMPREHENSIVE PROPOSAL. The special committee consisting of tlio whole of the City Council visited a large number of streets yesterday afternoon in connection with the loan proposal at present under.consideration. In view.' however, i>f the extensive scope of the proposal*, the committee was not able to visit nil the streets involved, and adjourned till Monday afternoon, when the remainder will lie visited. The committee will then consider the whole question on Thursday evening next. The Mayor (Mr. .!. H. fJuiWon) stated this morning (hat it was quite possible that the report of the committee would be available for tlie meeting that evening. A very large number of representations had horn received in regard to the various streets, and a number of deputations had waited upon him respecting matters that they desired to place before the council. These had all been tabulated, and the <'Ommittee hail them under consideration. The results, provided the committee could see it« way to make flny recommendation to the Council which would involve the suggested policy, would certainly embody the deliberately considered and matured decision of thp Council, after all the interests of thp numerous classes of city traffic and street requirements had been fully taken into account. As previously Intimated, the duty first dpvolved upon the Council to announce its policy in this matter, and then it became a matter for the ratppnyers to determine whether the scheme should proceed.
