ALLEGED SERIOUS ASSAULT.
At the Onehunga. Palice Court this morning, before Messrs. D. A. Sutherland and J. Rowe, J_P .'s, Robert Gore Pajfitt was charged with having assaulted a young woman on Monday evening, August 1_- The complainant stated that she was walking along Grey Street East at about 6.30 p.m. when she was suddenly attacked from behind. Her assailant put his band over her mouth, and when she opened it, he put his finger in, which she bit. She was thrown to the ground. After relating the nature of the assault, she said she finally escaped from her assailant, taking _is hat with her. The hat was afterwards delivere- to the police by her brother. The evidence of tbe police showed that defendant was arrested shortly afterwards while hiding behind a stone wall in the paddock near to where the assault had been committed. He admitted that the hat belonged to him. His finger bore marks such as might have been caused by a bite. After hearing medical evidence, the defendant was committed for trial at the Supreme Court.
