Eight or nine years ago Mr. Opie was" a prominent amateur sprinter, and *°n Australasian championships. He also represented the Dominion at the Empire Carnival in England in 1911. He was a schoolmaster, and tha son of .If. C. H. Opie, chairman of the Otago Education Board.
