IMPERIAL MEAT PURCHASE.

EXTENSION SUGGESTED.

WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The Minister in Charge of the Imperial Supplies Department announced to it deputation last Saturday that a proposal had been made to him that the requisition of meat should be continued until the expiry of that in regard to wool. Since then replies have been received toy the Minister from the freezing companies showing that the companies are almost unanimously in agreement with the proposal, only two declaring against it. Mr. Guthrie expressed the opinion to-day that if the Imperial Government | could be induced to extend the requisition it would he in the best interests of the Dominion. If a period of financial ■ stringency followed the war such an j arrangement would protect New Zealand I producers from being exploited In- companies controlled abroad.
