COLLIERIES DISPUTE.

STATE CONTROL URGED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) C-TRISTCHURCH, this day. The secretary of the New Zealand Federation of Labour, in the course of a letter to the Acting-Prime .Minister in connection with the coal mines dispute, says: —'■ I desire, on behalf of organised labour in Now Zealand, to make an urgent appeal to the Government to take over the control of the coal mines in NewZealand immediately. We make this appeal because we are of opinion that the (coalmine-owners should not be allowed to precipitate an industrial conflict which will cause an immense amount of suffer- , ing to innocent people, and serious finan- ! cial losses to all classes."
