FIERCE COUNTER-ATTACKS ON VESLE FAIL.

NEW YORK, August 6. The French have reached the Avre north of Montdidier. Fierce German counter-attacks north of the Vesle failed. The Allies have captured a thousand guns in the Marne operations. ( (A. and N.Z. Cable.) ,
