THE COPPER TRAM.
AUCKLAND LEADS. The returns for last week connected • with the' copper trail contest between i Wellington and Auckland, in aid "of the ) Red Cross funds, show that Wellington i has advanced four miles, which brings I ■ the trail as far as Waikanae, 37 miles!, • from the Southern city. The people of , Auckland advanced a further five miles, ■ and extended their trail to Kawa, 105 i miles from Auckland, near the Kingi Country border line. A communication ( -received toy the Mayor (Mr. J. H. Gunii son) from the Mayor of Hamilton etates that the lower Waikato district is well . organised, and that the «nm of £25,000 , has been fixed ac the objective for that i district. As Wellington has the assist- . ance of the Taranaki and Hawke'e Bay ; provinces, Gisborne has been included in i i the Auckland district for the purposes i i of the competition, , which proves of con-| I siderable interest as the trails of the I ■ two cities approach each other.
