MR R. G. THOMAS.
RETIRES ON SUPERA2TNT*.ITIOX. Mr. "R. G. Thomas, who for the past 14 years has held the position of Sheriff of the district of Auckland and Registrar of the Supreme Court at Auckland,* has' decided to retire on superannuation on account of serious illness brought about to a large extent by overwork. Mr. Rcece Goring Thomas was horn in the Waira.ra.pa, and was educated partiv at Xapier and partly at Auckland. He entered the Civil Sen-ice in IS7S, and in IS7D was appointed clerk at the Police Court at Auckland. In ISS2 ho was appointed clerk at the Supreme Court at Auckland, and in ISS7 was promoted to the position of deputy-registrar to the Supreme Court at ChrLstchurcli, from which place he was transferred to Wellington in J 889. After live years' service there he was appointed clerk to the Police Court at Auckland, and in lS9li received the appointment of DeputyRegistrar of the Supreme Court at Auckland. Two years later he was appointed Registrar for the Supreme Court at. Ghristchureu and Sheriff for the district of Canterbury, in the absence of Mr. A. R. Bloxam, on leave. Following that he was appointed Registrar to the Supreme Court at Auckland in 1904. a position which he has successfully held since. It is of interest to mention that he was -the eenior registrar of the Supreme Court in New Zealand. During his term of office in Auckland 'he made 'many friends', and., v.-as at. all times, .tmitormly courteous -to those who had dealings with him. -Muc-h regret will be felt that he has been compelled to retire, and his friends will join in expressing the hope that his recovery will be sure and complete.
