THE HOLIDAY.
ATTRACTIONS OF THE DAY. There was a goodly crowd of visitors in town for the holiday to-day. As usual the races attracted a large attendance, and the trains during the early hours of the day were packed. For the followers of hockey there was a sevenaside tournament, and bowlers on various greens followed their matches with the zest of enthusiasts. The business places in the city were closed, and the streets after midday presented a deserted appearance. The fine weather tempted a number of picnic parties to the various resorts about the city and suburbs. The picture palaces and other places of amusement were fairly well patronised throughout, while the man of an agricultural turn of mind stayed at home and quietly attended to the garden. A parade of some troops of boy and girl scouts served also to bring to mind the fact that it was the King-'s birthday, and that the holiday had been granted in honour of His Majesty.
