During an interval between a special meeting of the Xapier Borough Council to appoint a representative on the Tramways Appeal Board and a meeting of the Finance Committee, Councillor McCarthy (Deputy-Mayor) accused Councillor Mulvanah of telling lies, 'whereuron Councillor Mulvanah hit Councillor McCarthy on the jaw. Councillor Mulvanah fell, or was thrown back on to a chair, and Councillor McCarthy seized him, and said: "Will I knock him out?" Other councillors intervened, and the committee meeting was adjourned by the Mayor.
