PROTEST BY RETAILERS. (By Telegraph.—Tress Association.) t'HRXSTCHLRCH. this day. Steady increase in the price oi footwear in Christchurch is causing, some comment, and a meeting of the Christchurch Boot Retailers' Association has been called tor next week for the purpose of attempting to induce local boot manufacturers to reduce their charges. The retailers say New Zealand boot manufacturers are taking advantage of the practical elimination of . outside competition, aud have raised their ;Jipriees to an unfair extent. If retailers cannot secure any concessions ■as the result of next week's meeting they Jjto approach the Governmcjit matter.
