BOROUGH COUNCIL WANTS OPTION. An important matter to resident* ef . ■ Takapuna came before the local Borough Council last evening. The Mayor (Mr. W. Blomfield) moved, in aceordum T with notice previously given: "The*' upon the Takapuna. Tramway Company . • giving ?o the Takapuna Borough Conn- . cil an option sanctioned by their ehan* holders offering to sell to the Takapun* Borough Council the whole of thtfr rights and assets at par, payment to he made in borough debentures, the Tak»- \ puna Borongh Council will hold * poll of the ratepayers of the borough on the earliest occasion to vote on the question." The Mayor .pointed out th»t thi motion did not commit the Council to anything, as it was for the ratepayer ;. to decide what should be done. Hi* object wae simply for the Council to ffit » firm offer from the directore of the Taker ' puna Tram and Terry Company, ratified -; by the shareholders and debenture holders. If such was received, it could the be authorised by the Council that a poll ~ of ratepayers be taken. The whole r*--. sponsibflity would rest upon tie ratepayers themselves. Mr. Biss seconded the motkm. An amendment was moved hy Mr- E> Bond that the consideration of the matter be postponed until after the war; Hβ , pointed out that the present was not th* best time to finance such a propotal " the option was given. : Mr. A. ITulljames seconded the amendment, which was, however, negatived on ■ the votes. Mr. T.
