It is interesting to see the great numhers of boys and girls who spend most of their evenings in the tepid baths in Auckland. These baths remain open till half-oast eight o'clock in the evening, and till this time they are always crowded with the children who are there swimming. In the men's department especially there are hundreds of boys, and °° PC cent, of them can swim. It is but a very few years since the schoolboy who could swim was looked upon as an accomplished person. Now the majority of them not only can keep above water, wit, they like it, and put in a great deal oi their time indulging in this exercise; and besides this, not a few have a good elementary knowledge of life-saving.
