WOMEN'S PATRIOTIC LEAGUE.
EFFORT FOR FUNDS. Last Saturday the Mayoress (Mrs. J. H. Gunson), together with four members of the executive of the Women's Patriotic and Provincial League, met tbe committee of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute with a view to gaining the support of the headmasters of the State schools throughout the Auckland military district in a scheme for co-ordinating the work of school children through the League for the Bed Cross and other patriotic objects, the object being to secure concentration of effort and general economy. Last evening, before a special and unusually full meeting of the local Headmasters' Association, the same ladies again outlined tbeir scheme, and received a most hearty and sympathetic hearing. The Women's Patriotic and Provincial League is a very active body, which stands for the comfort and relief of'the soldier from his enlistment until he returns, and a large sum is required to maintain its efforts. Though a distinct organisation, controlling its own funds, it acts in co-operation with the Auckland Patriotic Association. The League is about to organise to obtain a general purpose fund for the Dominion gift scheme and for building up regimental funds. Tt is therefore desired to obtain the fullest support of the schools throughout the district.
