THE MILITARY MEDAL.

Mr. J. J. Riddell. of Gordonton, has been notified that his son, William, who left with the 11th Reinforcements, was wounded at the Somme, and subsequently took part in the Passchendaele fight, has been awarded the Military Medal for gallantry in the field.

A youth of 10 was charged before Mr. E. Rawson at Hamilton with having stolen a bicycle. It was stated that he had interchanged part 3 with another bicycle, removed the owner's name, and generally made the task of identification difficult. When accused, he admitted his guilt. His Worship, after pointing out the serious nature of the offence, entered a conviction, and ordered the culprit to come up for sentence when called upon
