A COUNTRY DENTIST

EXEMPTION IN PUBLIC INTEREST. The shortage of dental surgeons in the country was exemplified when the appeal of John E. Alexander, of Kohukohu, was dealt with by the First Auckland Service Board. A. M. Carter, member of the executive of the New Zealand Dental Association, said Alexander was a duly qualified member, and there was no other dentist 70 miles north or south of Kohukohu, and it would be against the interests of the community to remove him. The nearest dentists would be at Mangonui or Whangarei. In the Hokianga and half the Bay of Islands district it was estimated that 5,500 people would look to Mr Alexander for any required immediate dental treatme't? The Board decided to adjourn the appeal sine die in the public interest.
