INQUEST.
■ , DEATH FROM HEART FAILURE. An inquest was 'held at the Coroner's Court to-day, before the coroner (Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M.), on the circumstances of death of Joseph Silveira (67), retired master mariner, who died at the Auckland Hospital on the 22nd inst. Evidence of identity was given by his daughter, Charlotte Silveira, who said her father on the 11th was engaged on a pair of steps cutting a hedge, and fell. He was attended by Dr. Makgill, and ordered to the Hospital. He had been attended by Dr. Hope for heart trouble. Dr W. Scanncll gave evidence that deceased was admitted to the Public Hospital on the 11th inst., suffering from several broken rib 6. He was progressing favourably until 1 p.m. yesterday, when witness was called to the ward, and found the deceased suffering from an acute cardiac attack, from which he died at 1.30. He was of opinion that the seizure was not connected with the injuries caused from the fall. The coroner brought in a verdict that deceased died as the result of heart failure, in accordance with medical testimony.
