EXECUTIONS IN THE FIELD.
SMALL BRITISH LIST. FAIR PLAY PROMISED. LONDON, February 22. Replying to a suggestion in the House of Commons that there ought to be an expert legal defender when a soldier who had previously suffered from shell shock appealed against a death sentence, Mr J. I. Macpherson (Financial Secretary to the War Oflice) said that, considering the extraordinary numbers in the army of all classes and creeds, executions for cowardice and desertion had been the smallest in the world's history. The amended regulations demanded that all favourable facts should lie stated regarding a soldier who had fallen from grace under strain. Unquestionably he would I receive British justice and fair play.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
