THE TAKAPUNA FERRY.
SALE NEGOTIATIONS. Several matters of importance in connection with the Takapuna Kerry Company were dealt with by the Borough Council last night. Jn moving that a communication from the Takapuna Tramways and Ferry Company bo received, the Mayor stated that he hod conferred with two of the oilteials. Then it hud been pointed out that, whereas the engines on this service had been using Newcastle coal blended with coke, they were liring now with local coal, while coke in any quantity was not obtainable easily. This local coal was not nearly so efficient for the particular purpose as was the Australian coal. Unless supplies of coa.l and coke could be obtained
within a few days, the officials had intii mated the service would have to bo curtailed. Since that conference, the Mayor said, there was every reason to think that the. requisite supplies would ho got without difficulty. Therefore things would go -back to normal again.
The request of the Takapuna Tramway anci Kerry Company to the Auckland Harbour Board asking for concessions regarding the time-tablo was discussed, and it wan decided to ask that the Council be represented on the committee of the Harbour Board that has been set up to consider the matter. The Mayor was nominated as this representative.
The chairman gave notice to move: "That upon the Takapuna Tramway Company piving to the Takapuna Borough Council an option, sanctioned by their shareholders, offering to sell to the Council tho whole of theirs rights and assets at pnr, payment to be made in Horough debentures, the Council will hold a poll of ratepayers of the borough of Takapuna at the earliest occasion to vote on this question."
