ENEMY LINES HEAVILY BOMBED BY AIRCRAFT.
V ELEVEN GERMAN MACHINES BROUGHT DOWN. i (Received 9.15 a.m.) <g LONDON, February 20. I- 'General Sir Douglas Haig reports:—Our aviators bombed yesterday an ■ aerodrome northward of Douai and a large dump at Courtrai, and the railj 3cay station south-eastward of DouaL \ In continuous air fighting our machines brought down eleven enemy craft \ ' «nd drove down sis others. Two of ours are missing. r "Wβ bombed Treves and Thionville last night from low altitudes with ' good Tesults. Five bursts were observed on Treves station, which was set on £re. Three other buildings were ignited. Bursts were observed in Thionville railway station and gasworks, and also a large fire. One of our machines is missing. AYe dropped a ten of bombs on Treves in a daylight raid to-day. Eleven bujste were observed on the railway station, and six on neighbouring buildings. Three fires were started. We repeatedly drove off hostile scouts. ' The anti-aircraft gunfire was considerable.
i The Admiralty reports:—Naval aircraft last night dropped many tons I of explosives on St. Denie Westrem, near Ghent, and the Bruges docke. They i drove down an attacking hostile scout. Ther also dropped large quantities « of explosives to-day on the Aertryeke aerodrome and the Engel dump with good, results. Xaval patrols shot down a seaplane in flames and brought down a. scout behind our lines. They also drove down another one. All our planes ; returned.'—{A»and N.Z. and Renter.)
