NORTHERN SUBURBAN SHOW.

PEOPLE'S DAT. UNDER FAVOURABLE CONDITIONS. With calm after storm and beautiful bright sunshine, the second day of the Northern Suburban Show at Takapuna proved a great success. There was a good attendance of residents in Takapuna and the surrounding districts, also a large number of visitors from Auckland during the afternoon to witness the sports programme that had been arranged. Mr. J. Patterson's paddock, in which the show was held, deepite the recent heavy downpour of rain yesterday, was in fine condition this afternoon. At 2 p.m. the show was formally opened by Mr. A. Harris,- M.P. for'Waitemata, who congratulated the committee upon the success achieved, and also on being favoured with better weather for People's Day.

Mr. Grant, the judge of the horses, referred in appreciative terms to thq exhibit of the Takapuna Borough Council's horse 3aron, which, he said, was fit to appear on any show ground. He also spoke in high praise of Messrs. A. B. Wright and Co.'s fine team of grey draiight horsce.

tie cattle exhibits, the judge (Mr. A. C. Jones, of Papatoetoe) said the Jerseys and Friesians were fine specimens. He considered there was a general marked improvement of the cattle shown on the recent occasion as compared with those of previous years. He especially referred to the fine animals shown by Mr. A. Taylor, of Mangere, and Mr. A. H. Taylor, of Birkenhead. The two-year-old Jersey class was a very strong one, and contained some very nice heifers.

The afternoon events included a tug-of-war, in which six teams competed, including those who took part in the recent contest in the Town Hall. There were also jumping events and competitions in dancing Highland flings, sailor's hornpipe and Irish jigs. The Garrison Band was in attendance to provide the music. The results of the various competitions •will appear in the Sporte .Edition this evening.
