The engagement is announced of Miss Laura Vauee, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Vause, Onehunga, to Mr. Noel G. L. Ereon, second son of the late Dr. and Mrs Erson. of Auckland.
The marriage is announced of Mr. J. L. Hay, V.M.C.A. Secretary, N.Z. Division, to Miss D. Gunn, N.Z.A.N.S., of Christcliurch (N.Z.).
The engagement is announced, states our London correspondent, between Captain W. R. White-Cooper, R.A.M.C., eldest son of Mr and Mrs W. WhiteCooper, of Cradock, South Africa, and Rosamond Nancy Margaret, only daughter of Colonel H. F. Tracoy, C.F., New Zealand, late of the Vicarage, Dartmouth, and Mrs Tracey, of Dartmouth.
Mr and Mrs V. T. Hitchings, of Wei ling-ton, have been visiting Auckland.
Miss Janet Murray, states a Wellington exchange, who is in. charge of the Red Cross depot in Auckland, has been visiting in the South, and attended the Red Cross conference at Christchurch.
Miss Iv. Baskiville is teller of the Bank of New Zealand at Carterton.
Miss Margaret Turner, of Auckland, is the guest of Mrs JJethune, Wellington.
Mrs. 11. D. Caro, of Auckland, 1r visiting her piironls, Mr and Mrs Ballin, Merirale, Cliristehiirch.
Mrs Binney and Mra W. Thompson, both of Auckland, are visiting Christchurch.
The Right Hon. Sir Walter Davidson, K.C.M.fi., Governor of Newfoundland, accompanied by his wife and two daughters, passed through Auckland this week on his way to New South Wales, where he will take up hie duties as Governor.
Miss Newdigute, couain of the Governor of Tasmania, and Mrs McCarthy, who ie travelling with her, left Wellington a few days ago.
Mr and Mrs George Wilson of Auckland are staying at Warner's, Christchurch.
Mrs Helene Cross gave a delightful "At Home" at her now residence in Crnnmer Square, says a Christchurch pnper. Amongst the list of guoets was Mrs Binnie of Auckland.
Mr and Mrs Knight nnd party, from the Strnits Settlement, who have been staying at the Grand after touring Now Zealand, left during the week on their return journey.
Mrs Watson and her mother, Mra Powley. who have been for some (imo at the Grand, left for Sydney on Wednesday. The Rev. and Mrs Ward were amongst the passengers who eniled for Sydney during the week.
Miss G. Gorrie is staying with Mrs .T. R. Murphy, Oiisborne.
Amongst the guests at the Grand who returned to Australia this week are Mr and Mrs Wynn-Robcrts and Miss Wynn-Roberts (Sydney), Mr and Mrs Larkin. Mrs Willis-Allen, and Mrs Sheldon, nlso of the same city.
A dance in honour of Lieutenant J. Carr was given toy hie sister, Mrs Paul Cropper, of Ranfurly Road, Epsom.
Mr and Mrs Houghton have returned to Auckland after a visit to Hawke's Bay.
■ Miss Winifred Carter, who has been visiting Auckland and staying with friends at Devonport, returned to Sydney during the wee!:. Miss Carter is instructor in the liarp at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
Mre Hudson Williamson, accompanied by her daughter. Mrs Leach Jones, have returned from AVellington, where they have been visiting her son, Mr Arthur Hudson. Williamson.
In describing the opening session of the Republican Council in Pctrograd last October, Dr. Harold Williams said: "The senior delegate, who happened to be Breshko Breshkovskaya, "the grandmother of the Revolution," took the ohair foT a fow minutes in order to conduct the election of President. The appearance of a woman, and a veteran revolutionary, in the seat of the Re.ntinels of the bureaucracy was certainly picturesque."
