The Milton (Otago) Borougli Council Jβ in a quandary concerning its future lighting arrangements, owing to the difficulty of procuring supplies of carbide, except at exorbitant prices. The council has decided to increase the price of gas from 8/6 to £1 per 1000 ft, but if the consumers decide not to agree to the increase, the works will be closed down.
