THE AUSTRALIAN CENSOR
PARTY PURPOSES ALLEGED. SYDNEY. January 13. An interesting controversy Has arisen between Mr J. D. Fitzgerald (State Jlinister of Public Health) and Mr G. F. Pearce (Federal Minister of Defence) respecting the operation of the censorship. Mr Pearce challenged Mr Fitzgerald to produce evidence of one single instance in which deletions have been made from war news from Britain. Mr Fitzgerald accepted the challenge, and is publishing expunged' passages from a recent message referring solely to football matches among the Australian forces, commenting that such a censorship is of a particularly poisonous kind, because it is a political censorship for party purposes. He added that if Mr Pearce wants further instances he can have them, not singjjv-ont-in i_±t__io___. —-.(A. and 2f.Z.)
