BIRKENHEAD BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary meetinc of the Birkenhead Borough Council was held on Wednesday night. The Mayor (Mr J. P. McPhall) presided, and Councillors F. J. Stewart, Colin Mason, Albert Hadfleld, Kobt. Webb, and E. C. Walton were also present. Water.—The Waterworks Engineer (Mr. J. Tofid) reported, that the approximate quantity of water used In the borough during December was 1,170,000 gallons, the November consumption having been 846,000 gallons. The level of Lake Takapuna at the 31st December was 10 reet, a decrease of six Inches for the month. Works. —The Foreman or Works reported the completion of the formation of Palmerston Road, Tennyson Street and Kla Ora Road. The ruts In Marama Terrace would, be filled in and the bad portion of Harbour View Koad formed. It was decided to Instruct the foreman to have the formation of Lancaster Koad put in hand Immediately. Water Extension.—ln consequence of requests for the extension or the water service to portions of Blrkdale, the Waterworks Engineer was authorised to ascertain the number' of ratepayers requiring the wnter supply, and to submit an estimate of the cost of the extension, Including Lower Balraain Road. * Bubbteh. —It was decided that Immediate action be taken against on persons depositing rubbish on the roadways. Resignation.-—Mr. H. .T. Moffltt tendered his resignation as foreman of works, and the matter of filling the vacancy was referred to the Council in committee. The Mayor explained that ■Mγ. .Moffltt resided at Otahuhu, nud found It Inconvenient to remove his family to 'Birkenhead in order to be near his work. Building Permit.—A building permit was granted to Mr. M. Souster for the erection of a house for Mr. Rout at Blrkdale.
