FANTASTIC RUMOURS OF CAMBRAI COUNTERATTACK.
GERMANS GOT IT HOT AND STRONG.
(Received 1.15 p.m.)
LONDON, January 10.
The "Daily Express" understands that no generals or other officers have been sent home in consequence of the German counter-attack at Cambrai. The facts wholly contradict rumours which have lately been growing fantastic. Nobody is likely to be retired, because after the Germans attacked a looielyheld section of the line they got it hot and strong; we killed and wounded more Germans than on any previous day on the West front; in fact'j we killed so many that some of our machine-gunners became physically sick of the killing. The "Express" adds that recent changes at General Headquarters have no connection with the Cambrai affair.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
