CROWN LANDS.
CONDITIONS OF TENANCY. ; < GRAVE POSITION REVEALED. , The question of compliamce with the conditions under which land is taken up by Crown tenants was opened up by •Mr. Duxfield at the meeting of the Auek-_ land Provincial Executive of the Farmers' Union to-day. Several cases had been brought under his notice. One settler had complained that a large number of settlers who had . taken up Crown sections were not residing on them or improving them, consequently the burden of settlement was falling on the few who were improving the district. These others who were doing nothing were receiving benefits" which they were doing nothing to assist in obtaining. . . . Out of 44 taken up, only 15 owners " in this particular place had complied with the residential clause, and some of the 29 non-residents had donß no im- j provemente, while others had done ' little. They required a school and other facilities which could only be achieved by the settlement of the district. The 15 were working under very great disadvantages. There were not enough of them to warrant an up-to-date postal service, etc. It was decided to bring the matter before the Land Board.
