That the world is a small place after all is well illustrated-in letters received from his tWo sons by Mr James Rattray, •of the Manse, Manmku. Incidentally the efficiency 6f the Y.M.CA. organisation is brought out. The younger of ihe two brothers, on furlough in Scotland, had scarcely alighted from the train in Edinburgh when an elderly gentleman, a retired colonel of tho Imperial army, noticing the New Zealand badges and uniform, inquired what part of the Dominion the soldier hailed from, then inquired hie name. He then "asked if the soldier was any relntion of S. A. Rattray, to which the soldier replied that he was the son of the same. The old gentleman forthwith .invited the New Zealander to be his guest at his home in Glnsgdw. About the time the younger brother Was finishing up his furlough in Scotland, the elder brother arrived at the V.M.C.A. Shakespeare Hut, in London, on leave. He inquired from the officials if they knew anything of a wounded soldier, giving hie name and particulars. The V.M.C.A. men said he Was touring about Scotland on furlough. Turning away, who should he meet on the doorstep, just arrived from Scotland, but hie brother? "We just stared at each other for quite a time, before we 'took a tumble,'" writes the younger brother. Although they had been in. trench warfare and through the Somme together, they had not met since leaving Egypt.
