THE MILITARY MEDAL
» I Mr. S. G. Jeffs, for many years a I farmer in the Waikato, but who now resides at Devonport, has received notification from Sir James Allen. Minister of Defence, that Sergeant Arthur Henry Jeffs, the second son, has been awarded a Military Medal for gallantry on the field of action. Another brother, LanceCorporal Arthur Jeffs, is also on active service with the artillery. Sergeant Jeffs is 24 years of age, and prior to the war was head teacher at Piarere School, near Hinuera, Waikato. He left with the 16th Waikatos in the Main Body at the. beginning of tbe war, and has had wonderful good fortune, not having been | wounded either in Egypt, Gallipoli, or in j France. After the battle of the Somme he was made a sergeant, and for Messines has been recommended for a commission, j Writing to his parents re tbe latter' matter Sergeant Jeffs states "that of j itself is nothing, but earning it on the field is." SAPPER A. E. TAYLOR, M.C. Word has been received by Mr. N. Taylor, Rahiri Road, Greenlane, from the Minister of Defence that his son, Sapper •A. E. Taylor, has been awarded the Military Medal for gallantry on the field of action. •
