MAY DAY IN GERMANY.
STRIKES AMONG WORKERS. (Received 2.10 p.m.) AMSTERDAM, May 2. Details of the May Day demonstrations in Germany are scanty. A message from Berlin admits that a few strkies occurred, but states that the majority of workmen did not stop. The "Vorwaerts' : issued a significant warning against impatience, and implored the people to be calm. The newspaper believes that 9!) per cent of the soldiers will become pacifists after the war. Reports from Vienna indicate that orderly strikes were general in Ausv'iaHungary, the strikers demanding peace without annexations and humiliations. (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
