UNIVERSITY COLLEGE COUNCIL.

An ordinary meeting of the Auckland University College Council was held yesterday afternoon, when there were present: -Messrs T. W. Leys (chairman), G. L.'l'eacock'e, J. F. lioskiug, G. J. Garland, H. J. D. —lahon, Hon. ueorgc Fowids, I'rots. 11. W. Segar and C. W. Egertou, aud Or W. C. W. McDowell. The New Registrar.—The chairman extended a welcome to the new registrar, Key. A. B. Chappell, and congratulated tne latter on the promptness with which he had taken over his duties followiug the sudden accident to the late registrar (Rev. Cauon Nelson), thus preventiug auy dislocation of the work of the college. The chairman also congratulated' Mr 11. J. D. Million on his re-election unopposed as graduates' representative on the Council. Law School Equipment.—On tho recommendation of tiie Law Committee, It was decided lo purchase' a set of New Zealand law reports, also certain olher legal hooks, and an up-to-date duplicator, for the use of tin? law lecturers and students. Music Scholarship.—Or W. E. Thomas, principal of the School of Music, reported that in the music scholarship examination the highest niarlis (80 per cent) had been secured by MissVVera Grey. It was decided to award the scholarship, which entitles the holder to three years' free tuition, In terms of the report. School of Architecture.—The registrar reported that as a result of the preliminary public meeting with reference to the school of architecture, thirteen persons had jhanded in their names as prospective students, nnd that it was proposed to issue a printed syllabus without delay. The , chairman remarked that when the syllabus had been circulated more students were almost certain to come forward, and there was a prospect that the school would be in a quite flourishing condition within a very short time.
