BOWING. AUCKLAND CLUB. The Auckland Bowing Clnb held a series or.pair oar trials on Saturday for trophies presented by Mr. Charles Finlay. FIRST HEAT. Crews stroked by Murray and R. Carder pot up a good race. Carder leading till within 50yds of the finish, where Murray came along with a stiff challenge, which landed Mm a winner by three-quarters of a length. SECOND HEAT. ■T. Carder and Fleming were the next contestants. .1. Carder soon put a length of clear water between the two boats, and at the finish won by one length without any trouble. THIRD HEAT. The next crews were stroked by Hamilton and Cleal. This was an even race throughout, the finish being fought out at top speed, the judge giving his verdict in favour of Cleal by 6in. SEMI-FINAL. _ Cleal with Hawes, and Murray with Benjamin faced the starter, both crews getting away well together. Murray leading m the middle states, but by only a sm__ margin. When the last 200 yds were entered on Cleal put in a good finish, but % a J_*3_, responded very gamely, and one or the finest finishes was the result. Clears crew -winning by a bare half length. FINAL. iJ < _ T ™S to the strong wind and the fact that Clears crew had been in two hard races, it was deemed advisable to row the final early this week.

Conway (cox) 2 The crews started by mutual arrangement, and Culpan established a halflength lead, which he held until reaching choppy water at half-way, when Jerrom evened up matters. Both crews fought out a good finish, and Jerrom's crew proving the better stayers gained the judge's (Mr. M. O'Connor) decision by a canvas.

TAKXELL SCHOOL SPORTS. AND CLUB EVENTS. The ideal r.irnell Salt Water Swimming Baths bore an animated appearance 011 Saturday afternoon on the occasion of the first of that suburban public school's carnival held in conjunction with the Parnell Amateur Swimming Club. Although the weather was threatening in the morning, and had not improved much early in the afternoon, there -was a large attendance of juvenile swimmers, their parents and friends, and also of adult swimmers and lovers of the sport generally. The following are details:— THE STANDARDS. Standard 111. and Under (Girls), 25 Yards.—Martha Neiison (scratch) 1, Josephine 'Rishworth (Is) 2, •O. Nelson (3s) 3. The starters finished nearly in line. Standard IV. (Girls). 50 Yards.—Pauline Hoest (scratch) 1, Thelma Strange (os) 2, Myrtle Magee (12s) 3. Ida Simpson (6s) and Eileen Thomas (Ss) also started. Won easily. Standard V. (Girls), 50 Yards. —Valeric Jackson (ss) 1. Olive Monks (scratch) 2. The only starters.
