LONDON, February 11; Sir Douglas Haig reports: "We made successful raids east of Vermelles and south-east of Ypres. Many German dugouts were destroyed. An enemy attemptt to approach our lines south o"f Armentiercs was caught by our barrage and easily repulsed. Our artiilerv causetwo explosions in the enemy's lines.'' A later report from Sir "Douglas Haig states: "Attacks on our new positions east of Sailly-Saillisel were everywhere unsuccessful. We repulsed raids southeast of Neuville St. Vaast, east of Vermelles, and south of Neuve Chapelle. We entered the enemy's lines east of Neuve Chapelle, and destroyed emplacements. We conducted a successful raid at Givenchy." A French communique states r "We made a successful attack east of Rheims. We effectively bombarded a sector of Hill 304, north of Verdun. There is violent artillery activity at Vacherauville and in Crow's Wood. We made a successful attack west of Auberive, in the Champagne." JThe latest French report mentions a successful, attack west, of Poht-_-Mous-son. There has been lively artillery work on both banks of the Meusb. Numerous aeroplane bombardments and air fights have taken place. .--J.V A German communique states: "We repulsed an English attack near ! Serre, but we lost ground near TSaillescourt. The English attacked north of St. Pierre Vaast Wood, and retained a. small portion of our front." A later German communique states s "We repulsed a British detachment south of Sailly. We checked a French attack on Hill 304, north of Verdun. A French attack on Poivre Hill failed. The Germans penetrated the French lines north of Saint Mihiel, : and. .destroyed dug-outs and their inmates."
