NORTH SHORE YACHTSiVrEX. CI»CB'S TWENTY-THIRD YEAR.

The- yachtsmen of the JfortU Shore Club met last evening, when the- twenty-third annual report and balance-sneet were presented. Mr. W. A. Wilkinson (commodore) i occupied the chair. ' ■'-

I: Iα presenting the annual report of the el .?6»,;.,tht.eoßU»tttee b^^ : -in spite of the war, toe call to which so many of our members have responded to, we carried out a full programme of racing, although a number of the boats were not in com mission through lack of crews. Four cruising and two harbour races were held during the season—two to Awaroa Bay and one **™ to Lake Takapuna aud Islington Bay, < while the general handicap race was held • over the usual harbour coursel Our club regatta, set down for January 23rd, had to .be postponed for a fortnight, owing to - lack or, wind. Racing ' was very keen, , eepecially lor Captain T, Byans . fine pictnre in the launco class, which was won by Mr. D. Reid's Cascade! Your committee much regret that, while nearly all the localcluba have a club house of their own, the North Shore Yacht Club has none. The fact..that our -members are drawn from uU parts of; the harbour has puzzled the committee, .to -flx on a spot that would be central to all. It is thought by some that a revival of the floating club house scheme, brought up some years ago, might be the solution of the . difficulty, but the whole matter has been deferred owing to war time being thought unsuitable for launching -Out on an; extra expense." ': - : v . 'Some ieo names ate now ready for jnscrlptien on our roll of honour. Out of j those who have accepted the call of their ■ «ud conntry.-slx have made the greatsacrtace, the latest being Captain G. C. W. Armstrong, a member of our club for many years who always took an active part in all our sailing races, sailing in Windward, Viola, and Omatere. Captain A. J. S. Guns, one of the founders of the club, and an old flag officer, also passed away In eydney lately, and we wish to express our sympathy with their relatives." The balance-sheet shows receipts, including balance from last year, to be £9T 10/11, and the expenditure £71 5/I,' leaving a credit balance of £2G 5/10, which, must be considered very satisfactory under present war conditions. In his opening reinaks, the commodore, Mr. W. A. Wilkinson, referred to the steady progress made by the club since its inception, and to the good work done lost year In spite of the. war. " There are 160 or our', members away on service," said Mr. Wil-1 Kiasoa, ■" and of these eight have made the :• highest sacrifice—that of their lives." ] Fifty of our fellow-clubmen' have been.; wounded in the great war.-Our entries] have naturally fallen off, the speaker con-1 tinned, but we'have held four: cruising and ' two harbour races for which there were over 200 entries. It is a problem with so many j men away, how to keep the sport going, but a number of the married yachtsmen! have come ont again and have revived their interest in the sport. It is an easy sport to come beck to, for once a yachtsman, always a yachtsman. • ' . ;, For the eleventh year.-in succession; Mr. Wilkinson was elected commodore. Other officers elected, were:—Vice-commodore, Mr. I W. B. Ingram: reMScommodore, Mr. E.B. Webster: committee*. ? Messrs. E. L. Wllkin- [ son F.. W. Chambers, W. Slnton, W. WH- ! lets, H. George, E. Daniel, W. Kdkln. G. S. ] Laycock, A. P.- Newbold, C. Dlnsford, C. . Wild, W. de Bensy. It was uecidfd that the committee consist of 12 members instead of 10 as In the past. The handl- - cappers for launches, Kessrs. K. L. Wilkinson, H.. Bach, and C: K. 'Maekic and for ' yachts, the same as last year.: Mr. W. H. Wilkinson Is starter, timekeeper, : and , judge, and his assistant Sir. .Daniel. The meeting elected Messrs. W. Swlnnerton and ■ E. L. Wilkinson as .auditors, and Messrs. , W. Sinton and J. Parker measurers. The | delegates to the Yacht and Motor Boat As- , sociation are to be the commodore and Mr. Webster. Mr. H. Hill was reflected Jbon. j secretary, and an expreseion of thanks was I passed to him for bis services. ;■ . Iβ connection with the recently-published . Idea of encouraging youthful yachtsmen by I bniMlnr new 14-footers, the delegates to ■; the Yacht and Motor Boat Association were i instructed to vote for a uniform design of / I handicap 14-footers. - i \
