SALVATION ARMY APPEALS.
A SAIJE OF TVOKK. A Salvation Army self-denial Bale of work was opened in the Albert Street Barracks last night by the Mayoress, Mrs. J. H. Gunson, Brigadier Cannichael presiding over a large attendance. Mrs. Gnneon, in speaking of the good ■work being done ty the Salvation Army, referred to the care of children of soldiers killed in the war. Towards thus object alone the Army had raised £10,000 in New Zealand, of which Auckland had subscribed £2,000. Hie Girls' Home at Poneonby was about to be enlarged to provide accommodation for forty girls. Over 50,000 men had passed through the Armyfe ambulance in France, while 50,000 members of the Army were themselves doing their duty to the Empire in the fighting line. The Mayoress concluded by wishing the sale every success. The various stalls did good business during the evening, and the sale will be continued to-night.
