CAREERS OF THE FALLEN. PRIVATE A. E BUDD. j The name of Private A. E. Budd appears in a recent casualty list among those who have been killed while serving with the Dominion forces. Private Budd was a son of the Rev. E. C. Budd. who resides at 71. Garlton Gore Road', Auckland. He died of wounds received on September 20. While a lad. his school days were spent at Newton East, until he later went to the Grammar School. On leaving .school, he entered the office of Messrs. Heather. Roberton and C 0... and then went to the National Bank, remaining there until the declara- . tion of war. When volunteers were re- ' quired, he immediately enlisted and was with the party which occupied Samoa. ' After some months of service there he was invalided home, and was discharged as being physically unfit for further service. He later passed the doctor and left again to serve with the forces, bein« a private in the Ninth Reinforcements though he was offered promotion Pte, Budd preferred to remain in the ranks. PRIVATE B. H. SKEET. Private B. H. Skeet. reported killed in our Saturday's issue, was the son of Mr «• m. .>.:eet. Commissioner of Crown for the Auckland district, and was just over 19 years of age. He received his education at Nelson ColWe and the Waitaki Boys" High School. Having concluded his studies. Private skeet was taking a holiday preparatory to going on the land, when he enlisted. -He left ior camp last February. and was enrolled in the Rifle Bri-ade". He was acting as observation officer to Captain Turnbull when last heard of. PRIVATE C.~pTv. WHEELER. Private c\ P. V. Wheeler, reported pounded, was a well known purser, employed by the Union Company. He was on the Navua prior to enlisting His father. Dr. C. H. Wheeler, of Devonport. i= at present engaged in army work on a transport. Another son. Private G. »• H. tt heeler, is also at the front. RIFLEMAN STANLEY MAFFEY. Rifleman Stanley Maffev. reported killed in action in France on September 15, 1916, was 30 years of age. He ari rived in Auckland in 1907, and was in 'the service of the Union Steam Ship Company and Huddart-Parker Company | until the time of enlisting last October. He took a great interest in yachting, and was often one of the crew of the i Freda. His mother resides at Broeklev. Kent. England. TROOPER HARRY CYRIL IHDDLETON. Trooper Harry Cyril Middleton. who returned by the Willochra on Saturday, was wounded in the Gallipoli campaign, necessitating the amputation of his right arm. He left in the 4th Waikatos. with the Main Expeditionary Force, and was engaged at the time of enlisting in farming pursuits in the Te Awamutu district. His brother. Mr. J. R. W. Middleton, of the National Electrical and Engineering Company, Auckland, resides in Dominion Road, Mt. Eden. PRIVATE JAS. F. EDMONDS. Private James Fred. Edmonds.. re-_. ported wounded in France, is the son of Mr. Edwin Edmonds, of Glenfield. He was born and educated at Glenfield, where he worked on his father's farm, end was well known as a loc.i! cricketer. He left New Zealand with the Ninth Reinforcements-,. ■'-_.•■-
