ON THE GERMAN LINE
GALLANT NEW ZEALANDERS
THEIR SECOND ADVANCE
RUSSIANS MOVE AGAIN
RUMANIAN RETREAT ENDED The British continue to push their attack north of Thiepval. where they have extended their positions in the "Stuff" and Schwaben Redoubts. They inflicted severe losses on the enemy and took a number of prisoners. A number of effective raids on the German trenches to the north were carried out. The official correspondent with the New Zealand Forces in Prance forwards an interesting dispatch, showing that the New Zealanders carried out their latest attack with the greatest dash and gallantry. During the advance the Aucklanders and some of the Otago men were hung up by the enemy's wire, and were severely punished meanwhile by machine-gun fire. They were unable to. complete the attack that night, but next morning they cleaned out the position and took the ground allotted to them. The enemy suffered very severely, the bodies lying shoulder to shoulder in the trench.
The Russians are resuming their "push" on the eastern front, and both aj Brody and Buczacz they have hurled the Germans back, taking a total of over 4,000 prisoners.
ihe Austrian attacks compelled the Rumanians to retire in the Hermann stadt sector of their front, but the Rumanians gamely extricated themselves from a difficult position, and it is now announced by the Austrians that the Rumanians have resumed their offensive.
Terrible stories of the atrocities committed by the Bulgarians and Germans in the Dobrudja are being brought to light. Tne Rumanians intend to lay them, when authenticated, before .the Allies and neutral nations.
