AN APPEAL.
The Mayoress, Mrs. J. H. Gunsou. has, issued an appeal to all the residents of the Auckland province for help to supply Christmas presents, which it is hoped to send to every New Zealand soldier. The approximate value of the articles placed in the gift is 5/, and 6,000 of these presents are required for our own boy« from the Auckland province. A packed "billy" will be sent to the men in Egypt. and those who are prisoners of war. while a special box has been arranged for the men in France and Samoa. It is expected to begin packing in a few weeks' time, to allow of shipping in October. It is desirable that donations be sent in early, and a liberal response made by the public. The Thames district has" proniised 200 parcels as a contribution, and if- is hoped that other districts as well as the town will remember the men who are Buffering and dying under terrible conditions, so that we may live in peace and prosperity. To clean enamel saucepans never tiso soda, as this spoils the enamel. Rub with salt or fine aches, then.rinee in warm ■water.
