CHURCH MEETINGS.
SOMERVELL MEMORIAL. There was a attendance at tho j annual meeting of the SomervoU Me- | moriaJ Presbyterian Church held last evening. Tho Rev. Jas. Pattieon presided. It was reported that there hail been a gratifying increase in the numbers of people attending the services, and I larger numbers of children were on the i Sunday-school roll. There was a total .! of 127 children at the school and twelve ' teachers. At, the Leslie Orphange aiso the school had been placed upon a B&tis■j factory footing, and there were now 41) .children attending. 3ir. W. Stewart, •: 6uperintendeut, in the course of some re- , marks, spoke of the need of developing) '[ the moral and spiritual side of the children's lives. He stressed the fact that it i was the duty and the opportunity of the I Church to f-ccond the elTorts of the Education Department. The reports of the Church finances showed that affairs '■ were in a satisfactory condition. -Mr. Vattieon. in hia report, made kindly re- ' ference to his predecessor. Chaplain- ['■ Captain \V. McLean. 'i J ST. PETER'S TTtESBYTERLAX. I At the annual meeting of St. Peters j Presbyterian Church, held at Grey Lynn j last night, the Rev. G. B. llonro, Moderb i ator. presided over' a largo gathering of ','• members and adherents. The Rev. F. A Tliompson, the minister cf the charge, was also present. The session report. . contained reference to the excellent j
work curried on by the "minister during the year, remarks which were endorsed by the announcement of an increase in the congregations at the services. It was stated that there were -200 children on the roll at the Sunday-school, with a staff of 10- teachers. The managers' report referred to the success of tho weekly envelope system of collecting, and to the number of improvements which had been made to the chnrch during the year as a result of voluntary subscriptions and labours. The young men's Bible class reports showed that all tne eligible young men of the church were on active service. In the course of some remarks Mr. Monro, ac Moderator of Presbytery, Rtated that he had found in the course of his visitations that there was a general tendency towards increased attendances and improvement in the oonditions of church funds, notwithstanding the effects of the war. On behalf of the chnrch, Mr. Thompson preeented Wise Finlay, the organist, with an inscribed wristlet watch.
