FYSON, dangerously ill, wounds, no date given. MAORI CASUALTY LIST. PTE. MOKI, died of pneumonia, June 30, Depot Hospital, Hornchurch. PTE. W. KEPPA, reported wounded (multiple, slight), admitted hospital June 23. MAJOR R. WYMAN, D.S.O. Major Ralph Wyman, who was wounded in the left arm recently and admitted to hospital on June 23, is the second son of Mr. W. H. Wyman, of Avondale South, and was born in Auckland. He took his diploma in commercial law and three other subjects at Wisconsin Business University, U.S.A., and was for some time on the staff of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company. He resigned that position in order to join the Eighth Contingent for the Boer war. On his return he took up farming at Razorback, Pokeno. He has always taken a keen interest in military affairs, and was captain of the Pukekohe Mounted Rifles. His work during the visit of Lord Kitchener was given special commendation. On the outbreak of the present war he left his property at Otorohanga and joined the Main Body as captain in the 3rd (Auckland) Mounted Rifles. He was wounded at Gallipoli, and in recognition of his services in that campaign was promoted to the rank of major and awarded the D.S.O. LIEUTENANT W. A. GRAY. Word has been received that Lieutenant W. A. Gray, youngest son of Mr. S. Gray, clerk to the Mt. Eden Borough Council, has been wounded. Lieutenant Gray was a brilliant pupil of the Auckland Grammar School, and passed on to the Auckland University College with a University scholarship. He had a distinguished career at college, obtaining the degree of Master of Science and winning a senior University scholarship and the Gillies and Grey scholarships. He took up civil engineering, and was employed by Mr. Metcalfe, the well-known engineer, and was afterwards employed by the Railway Department. He joined the Seventh Reinforcements as a sergeant, got a commission, and was appointed to the Third Battalion of the Rifle Brigade. Lieutenant Gray was a prominent athlete. He played for the University cricket and football clubs, and was captain of the fifteen.
