MILITARY BOOTS.
'A HUGE CONTRACT. (Special to the '-'Star.") WELLINGTON, Wednesday. It has not been necessary to commandeer a single New Zealand factory for war supply purposes, the reason being that the Dominion's business men have fully responded to all demands upon their staffs and plant. In giving your correspondent this information the Hon. Arthur M. Myers (Minister of Munitions) stated that many factories have had to work up to their fullest capacity, and it would be hard to get the general public to realise how much good work has been done in the factories of the Dominion. '"Apparently," continued the Minister, "we have overcome our original difficulties in regard to the boot supply to the forces, the quality of footwear supplied being such that it is friving every satisfaction. A good dpal of trouble was taken in obtaining the best expert advice before issuing thp specification for the 100,000 pairs of boots required during the current year. Special lasts werp ordered, and thesp are being supplied by thp Minister of Munitions to fhe successful tenderpra. In the course of manufacture a representative of the La-bour Department makes frequent visits to the factory, to ensure that the specification is being adhered to." j
