General Godlevj in a communication to the Defence Minister, states that he hae arranged to put all the Maori Contingent into a pioneer battalion, which for the present wijl be composed half of Maoris and half of men transferred from the surplus of New Zealand Mounted Kifle (Brigade, reinforcements. Half the Maori reinforcements will be posted to thU battalion, which eventually , may become practically entirely <t" Maori Battalion. The commander will' be Major King, X.Z.S.C., and Captain Bunk swill be second' in command;
