TAKAPUNA AND RECRUITING.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —Please permit mc to cay a few 'words regarding sundry statements made by a certain councillor at Wednesday ■night's meeting of the Takapuna Borough Council. The gentleman in point mentioned .'that ;on his way to the ineeting>-ne h'aj "passeo| a group of about eight young men going to- the pictures, and he- ventured •t6 say that every one of them ought to be at the war." Being well acquainted with the aforesaid councillor. I can understand this expression of patriotic- feeling, but would explain "at the'same time, as I was one of the yoiing men mentioned (we were eix- -in-number), that one of our number ihad recently returned wounded,'while, three other's have enlisted, and are .waiting to be "called up" any day-.— - The -remaining pair have reasons which they do not eare>to express .to every pereon with inquisitive tendencies,'who happens to come along. I would not. like .. to .dishearten the worthy gentleman's patriotic! outburst, but would, -at the same time, make the fact plain that in this instance he discussed a- subject of which 'he knew little.; —I am,' etc., ' . -YOUNG TAKAPUNA.
