ALL FOR EMPIRE LEAGUE.
ELIMINATION OF ENEMY TRADE AND INFLUENCE. At the annual conference of the United Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen's Association of New Zealand it was resolved to form a league, to be known as the "All for Empire League." The founders of the League were the members of the conference of the United Association, comprising representatives from Auckland, Wellington, Dunedin and Christehirreh, the scheme being received with much enthusiasm. The main objects of the League arc to eliminate enemy trade from within the British Emprre, and to ensure the safety of the British Empire by advocating more efficient means of defence, both military and naval, and greater unity between the self-governing States and dependencies of the Empire and the Mother Country.
Favourable reference was made in connection with the scheme by several of the members at the conference, the president (Mr. S. A. Orcliard) in particular heartily approving of the iden. Ho stated that, although they were at war with Germany, German goods were still coming into the country. He considered every effort should be made to prevent such an occurrence, and strengthen the bonds of Empire trade for the futuro days of peace.
The minimum for subscription was fixed at 1/-, and it was left open with members to contribute larger sums in furtherance of the objects of the League. As the founders of the League represent the four large centres, each centre is thus pledged to actively assist in the propaganda to be undertaken. The matter will be brought forward ail the meeting of tho Auckland Commercial Travellers' Association by the president (Mr. W. Garrett), when it is hoped to give an impetus to the movement locally.
