BREAK IN WEATHER.

STRONG GALE BLOWING.

In several place; damage has been effected by the easterly gale, which was blowing during last night and early this morning. The shore at Devor.port was strewn with rubbish, and a skid used for small boats in front of the Queen's Parade was washed away from the supporting piles by the heavy sea which was running. I During the "24 hours preceding 0 a.m. to-day, .7S inch of rain fell in the city.

The Waitemata bowling green near the gasworks at Northcote was under water this morning, the wind having backed up the tide. It is stated that never before has the sea here so far encroached upon the land.

It was found impossible to hold the parade of troops at the Auckland Domain to-day, owing to the swampy'condition of the ground, and arrangements were made for the holding of tiie function on the Queen's wharf.

The signalman at Manukau Heads reports that during the night and thi3 morning a strong S.E. gale was blowing until noon to-day, when it veered around to we3t. At 1 p.m. the bar was workable, but it was thought during the afternoon the quickly-rising sea would keep vessels from passing in or out of the harbour.
